Dr Vivek Kaul
Dr Vivek Kaul is the Professor of Medicine (and former Division Chief) in the Gastroenterology & Hepatology Division at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY, USA. After graduating medical school from Delhi University in 1993, he completed residency in Internal Medicine at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, followed by General Gastroenterology fellowship at Albert Einstein Medical center in Philadelphia, PA. Dr Kaul also completed an additional year of fellowship training in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at St Luke’s Pancreaticobiliary Center in Milwaukee, WI. He has been in academic Gastroenterology practice for nearly 25 years.
His clinical, research and medical education efforts are focused on Therapeutic Endoscopy, Barrett’s/Esophageal cancer and Pancreaticobiliary disease. He is a PI and/or co-investigator on several national and international trials in endoscopy, pancreatic and esophageal disease, including NIH funded trials.
Dr Kaul serves in leadership roles in several national and international GI societies. He currently serves as Secretary General of the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), and is on the WGO Governing Council, Executive & Finance Committees. He is longstanding member of the ASGE Reimbursement committee, the alternate ASGE RUC advisor to the AMA and Vice-Chair of the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) Council section of Endoscopy, Technology & Innovation. Dr Kaul is a member of the ACG International Relations committee and co-chairs the education sub-committee. Dr Kaul also serves on several national and international task forces, including the WGO Climate Change-Green Endoscopy task Force and the ACG Ergonomics task force. In addition, he currently serves on the EUS and Research subcommittees of the GI-Quic consortium.
Dr Kaul is the immediate past Chair of the ASGE reimbursement committee, ASGE-EUS-Special Interest Group (SIG), past Governor of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) for Northern NY, and immediate past chair of the ACG Innovation & Technology Committee. He was also the past co-chair of the ACG national task force on Artificial Intelligence and served on the recently concluded ASGE endoscopy subspecialty certification task force.
Dr Kaul is a reviewer and editorial board member for several national and international journals, is an Associate Editor for ASGE’s innovation journal iGIE and the international editorial board Chair for the ACG journal Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology (CTG). He has published extensively in the field of interventional endoscopy & several other aspects of Gastroenterology, with nearly 120 peer reviewed publications in top tier journals. Dr Kaul is a Castle Connolly “top doc” for 10 years in a row. He is a sought-after speaker and regularly lectures and shares his endoscopy expertise at centers in the USA and around the world.
