Prof Grant Ramm

Professor Grant A. Ramm (BSc, BSc(Hons), PhD, FAASLD, FGESA) is Deputy Director & Chief Scientific Officer of QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane, Queensland, where he is also the Senior Group Leader of Hepatic Fibrosis. He is a graduate of the University of Queensland (PhD 1993) with post-doctoral training as an American Liver Foundation Fellow at St Louis University, St Louis. He has been continuously funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia since 1997 and is an author on >200 scientific publications. He is an inaugural Fellow of both the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (FAASLD, 2014) and the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (FGESA, 2022) and is a recipient of the Distinguished Research Prize of GESA (2020). He has served in various capacities for GESA (1997-2011) including as a member of the Liver Faculty, Chair of the Research Institute, Chair of the Scientific Program Committee and as a member of GESA Council.

 He is internationally recognised for his discovery and clinical research on the pathobiological mechanisms of hepatic stellate cell activation and liver fibrogenesis, clinical translation into non-invasive fibrosis assessment and in the development of novel therapeutic approaches to limit inflammation and treat hepatic fibrosis associated with chronic liver disease.
