Dr Alex Craven

Dr Alex Craven is a Melbourne-based upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon with expertise in revisional surgery, complication management, and the long-term gastrointestinal consequences of metabolic procedures. He plays a leading role at Austin Health’s multidisciplinary public bariatric program and also consults privately across several sites.

Dr Craven’s practice focuses on integrated, evidence-based obesity care, with a particular interest in post-surgical GI function, dysfunction, and nutritional complications—areas of growing relevance to gastroenterologists. He is a national educator on topics including obesity science, integrated care pathways, and surgical anatomy after metabolic interventions.

He serves on the boards of ANZMOSS and NACOS, is Chair of the IFSO Asia Pacific Chapter, and co-convenes the Austin Health Obesity Conference. Dr Craven also contributes to charity and advocacy efforts via Impact Obesity and Every.Body.Equity., promoting equitable access to obesity treatment and building awareness across the healthcare system.
